    You can renew your library card in person at the ZLB or at any of the Verbund der Öffentlichen Bibliotheken Berlin (VÖBB) libraries. You must present some form of proof of address and, if applicable, proof that you are entitled to concessions.

    You can renew your library card online at / My Account (if you have provided an email address for the account). Please present some form of proof of address when you next visit the library to verify the account.

    No, that is unfortunately not possible.

    Please see your library account for an overview of your orders, reserved items, the media you have borrowed and the return dates; you can also renew items there, if necessary.

    You can make changes to your personal details or your address in person on presentation of the respective documents (identity card or passport including registered address confirmation) at our service counters and at all Verbund der Öffentlichen Bibliotheken Berlin (VÖBB) l

  • Items that you have borrowed for use outside the library can be returned to both locations.

    In the entrance hall of Haus Potsdamer Straße you can use an automated book return during the opening hours (Mon - Sat 8am - 10pm, Sun 10am - 6pm) . It is located left of the registration desk. When you return your volumes there, they are immediately removed from your library account and you will receive an email with a return receipt.
    For media that you cannot return at the automated book return, you will find a return trolley in the foyer outside the service hours of the issue desk (Mon - Fri 10 am - 6 pm, Sat 10 am - 2 pm) at the entrance control. No return receipt will be issued there.

    In the Haus Unter den Linden, books can be returned at the Information & Service Desk; there you will also receive a receipt. Outside service hours you have following options to return books without a receipt:

    • at the entrance control to the Reading Room (media return box)
    • in front of the Information & Service Desk (book trolley)
    • at the Reading Room loans (book trolley)

    General information

    Legal entities such as institutions, academic chairs, or companies have the option to get a library card issued for their organization. You can also register your institution online in advance or have your card issued on site. Registration is free of charge.

    Please note that for licensing reasons, we cannot offer corporate library card owners remote tillgång to electronic resources.

    In beställning to förteckning for a legal entity library card, you will need,

    • an application form,
    • a letterhead from your institution on which you name up to three authorised signatories with the appropriate signatures. This document also has to be signed by the management of the institution. anmeldeservice@ 

    The legal entity library card can be obtained by one of the authorized signers at one of our lending desks. For this purpose, please bring

    • the letterhead of the institution,
    • an original personal identification card.

    In general, we can only issue one kopia of the library card per institution, which can be shared by the persons authorised to sign.
