This large lakeside site, with modern facilities and a busy continental feel, is set below the old city of Gränna. Flat fields separate Gränna from the shore, one of which is occupied by the 25 acres of Grännastrandens where there are numbered pitches including a tent area and some seasonal pitches. About pitches have electricity (10/16A). The site is flat, spacious and very regularly laid out on open ground with only a row of poplars by the lake to provide shelter, so a windbreak may prove useful against any onshore breeze. Part of the lake is walled off to form an attractive swimming area with sandy beaches, slides and islands.
Obviously, the great attraction here is the lake. It offers beaches, swimming, fishing, sailing and superb coastal walks. Outstanding, however, is the 30 minute ferry crossing from the tiny harbour next to the site to Visingsö, the beautiful island reputedly inhabited for over 6, years. It is this excursion, complete with its gentle tour by horse-drawn carts, ‘remmalag’, which alone warrants Grännastrandens as your base. Grä
