Mikkel Hansen fick sitt inledande genombrott inom GOG Svendborg TGI, likt var en av topplagen i Herrehåndboldligaen i land. Hans framgångar medförde för att flera europeiska toppklubbar fick upp ögonen för honom. värvades Hansen av FC Barcelona, dock stannade inom endast numeriskt värde säsonger efter att äga fått begränsat med speltid.

At a press conference organised by Hansen's current club, Aalborg Håndbold, the year-old said he felt this summer was the right time to step away from the sport, while he was still finding the joy in handball.
Hansen said he had made the decision to retire some time ago, although he still had no plans for what he would do after hanging up his handball jersey.
He said he would like to play at the upcoming Paris Olympic Games, which Denmark qualified for by winning the IHF Men's World Championship. Aalborg are also in the quarter-finals of the Machineseeker EHF Champions League, and Aalborg sports director Jan Larsen said at the press conference he hoped Hansen's career could end with a few more trophies - although Hansen is currently recovering from a groin injury.
Hansen began playing handball in his hometown of Helsingør as a junior, joining GOG in as his first senior club. He then played two years for Barcelona, and another two in Copenhagen, before moving to Paris Saint-Germain in for 10 years in which he became one of the world's biggest handball stars.

Mikkel Hansen (born 22 October ) is a Danish former professional handball player.[1][2][3]
Widely regarded as the greatest handball player of all time. [1] Hansen has won the IHF World Player of the Year a record-tying three times.[4] He played as a left back for most of his career, but towards the end of his career he transitioned to play more as a centre back/playmaker.

He joined FC Barcelona Handbol in June He previously played for Danish Handball League club GOG, with whom he won the Danish championship in On 2 June , he returned to Denmark to play for AG København after two years of playing in Spain. After two years and two championships, the club folded in with Hansen joining the newly formed French team PSG Handball. He played for PSG for ten seasons before going back to Denmark and Aalborg Håndbold.
